Your solutions for being short staffed

We hear a bit from the members we work with that staffing is often a problem.

Although we assist with this from an outsourcing point of view, which can also free up staff time... this still leaves some short of staff to do jobs that just can't be outsourced.

I am interested to know how many others are having staffing problems. Do you have difficulties with not enough staff & not enough hours in the day to deal with your clients the way you would like to?  I know some people outsource some of the work to other firms, or to bookkeepers they have a close relationship with. Maybe there is another method to do this?

I like the idea of being able to offer part-time work to students, but I know from the past this is not always ideal if they lack in real business experience. What do you think can be the single best way to maintain a suitable level of client services when there seems to be no options for extra staffing?

Re: Your solutions for being short staffed

Well, I have now just started outsourcing a lot of my work - payroll, bookkeeping, management accounts and budgets are going offshore, to Poland

I am sending my year end work to an accountant in Manchester.  We provide each other a bit of work so it is a good arrangement, he does what he is good at and I do what I am good at so everyone wins.

I am only starting to grow my business now, so I have not had anything I can't handle but I am finding it easier to grow by outsourcing a little at a time so I have enough time to work on getting new clients.

I doubt I would want to work too much with students, or office assistants etc as I just see too many inexperienced people make a mess of things.
