Task management has been kept flexible to make managing large and complex tasks easy. This was very briefly covered in the initial setup walkthrough. Below is a more detailed walkthrough for managing tasks and child tasks.
With all of the functionality and features of the system, we do welcome your input, feedback or change requests.
Online Practice Management System Walkthrough - Managing Tasks
1. Add a task from either the Quick Menu, the Main Task Listing, the Client or the Team Member detail screens
The detail may outline the overall task in as little or as much detail as needed. Using notes, or child tasks can provide additional details on the specifics of the task.
2. Adding Child Tasks (sub tasks)
After a task is created or by visiting the task detail screen, you will be able to view and manage child tasks. This lets you break down tasks into smaller tasks. You can assign different team members and add reminders just as with creating the initial parent task.
Click the
next to Child Tasks to create a task within the task you just created.
3. Adding Child Tasks Details
Details can be entered, and reminders added just like the parent task.
4. Child Task Created
As you will see, the child task is created just as the parent task. This can be managed in the same way with reminders, notes etc attached.
5. Task Listing
In the main task listings page you will see all parent tasks listed. Those that have child tasks show
on the right. When clicked, this opens up the row to include a list of all child tasks directly under the parent task.

Here you can click
for a quick view of the child task, or click the name to go straight to the child task detail screen.
6. Updating Tasks
Now viewing a task you will see all child tasks listed under the parent task. Task status can be updated from the detail screen for that task by clicking
.
Task status options are:
- Logged (when a task has been created)
- Accepted (acknowledgement/confirmation of the task by the person assigned)
In Progress (work has commenced on the task)
- Queried (a query has been raised for the task, and awaiting response)
- Completed (task has been listed as completed)
- Archived (final confirmation of completion and moves to archived task area)
When a team member creates a task and assigns themselves, it automatically sets the status as 'Accepted'.
The Completed status still maintains the tasks as active, with any email reminders continuing to be sent. A team member with suitable permission (coming in the near future with multi-user access) can confirm the completion of the task and change this to archived. The task can then be viewed under
just as it was previously shown.
The Completion % drop-down provides a way team members can estimate the amount of work that's been done for a task.
That covers managing tasks and child tasks within the Online Practice Management System.
I do hope you find this useful, and am looking forward to your input and feedback!
